Mauthe 612

Description

The 10 1/2 ligne windup caliber Mauthe 612 origins from the 1960s and is a reliable contemporary construction.

The base plate shows the well execution, so, for example, all important bearings contain rubies.

Mauthe 612: base plate with center minute wheel

As still usual that time, the center minute wheel is directly driven by the mainspring barrel and beared under an own cock.

Mauthe 612: gear train

gear train

The Mauthe 612 uses the classical gear train, which lets the center minute wheel follow the third wheel, the directly driven center seconds wheel and finally the filigree steel escape wheel.

The modern two-leg anular balance is beared in two inhouse Mauthe Super-Contrashock shock protections.

It beats with 18000 A/h, which can be regulated on the hairspring key only.

As escapement, a swiss pallet lever escapement is used.

Mauthe 612: Dial side

To reach the number of seventeen jewels, the Mauthe 612 uses three cap jewels, two for the escape wheel bearing (OK) and one (useless) for the oil-free bearing of the lever.

Besides this, you can spot the dial side shock protection bearing and the yoke winding system of this well made german movement.

In the lab

The specimen shown here came with many signs of use, partially rusted and gummed into the archive and got a simple revision.

Timegrapher result

The rates of the timegrapher varied a lot in each position, so the figures show the medium deviation. For the age and use of the specimen, they are still pretty well.

horizontal positions
dial up +-0 s/d 242° 5.0ms
dial down +-0 s/d 254° 5.1ms
vertical positions
