DuRoWe 72

Description

In the mid 1960, the german DuRoWe in Pforzheim launched the small ladies’ watch form movement DuRoWe 72. With its nominal size of 5 1/2 lignes, it was up to date, since ladies’ watches of that time had to be as tiny as possible.

The execution of this movement is very well, of course, all important bearings contain rubies. The movement-side (only there, and not really required) cap jewel and the also only movement-side (but useful) cap jewel of the escape wheel ensure the marketing-ideal number of seventeen jewels.

DuRoWe 72: gear train

gear train

The gear train construction allows large wheel, some of them with the drawback of long axles, see below.

It follows the classical pattern mainspring barrel - center minute wheel - third wheel - seconds wheel and the large escape wheel, made of steel.

For space reasons, the lower bearing of the seconds wheel is above the escape wheel, so effectively a two-storey construction.

The third wheel has got a very long axle and is located directly next to the mainspring barrel.

The monometallic anular balance is beared in two inhouse Duro-Swing shock protections and beats with 18000 A/h. Unlike her predecessor DuRoWe 70, the hairspring stud is moveable.

Of course the DuRoWe 72 uses a swiss pallet lever escapement.

In the lab

This movement came well used into the archive and got a simple service.

Timegrapher result

The rates are acceptable for the age, the big amplitude difference in the hanging positions is noteale.
