Judex 130

Description

Dating from the 1940s, the Judex 130, later Sefea 130, is an 8 3/4 ligne windup movement from France, which, if you look closely, is even marked “French Made.”

However, one should not be blinded by the pleasing appearance, as we will see in the course of this article.

It was state of the art that time and is apropirate well made.

All important bearings contain rubies, and the movement has got a pallet lever escapement and a yoke winding system.

The gear train uses the classical construction with mainspring barrel, directly driven center minute wheel, third wheel, decentral seconds wheel at 6 o’clock and the very filigree escape wheel.

As said before, a swiss pallet lever escapement is used.

The Judex 130 uses a monometallic screw balance, which is not yet shock protected and beats contemporarily slow with 18000 A/h.

The adjustment of the beating rate happens with the help of a long regulator arm.

As beautiful as the movement looks, it’s actually a deceptive package. As you can see, it doesn’t use separate cocks for the seconds wheel and escape wheel. Instead, the entire gear train, including the minute wheel, is mounted under a single bridge, which is only designed to create the impression that multiple bridges/cocks are being used.
Furthermore, the screw on the escape wheel bearing is completely ineffective!

On the dial side, you can spot the yoke winding system with its large setting lever spring.

Interestingly, the cap jewel for the dial side balance bearing is transparent.

Auf der Zifferblattseite ist schön der Kupplungsaufzug mit der großen Winkelhebelfeder zu sehen.

Beim Lager der Unruhwelle wird interessanterweise nur ein transparenter Deckstein verwendet. Could this also be an attempt to cut costs?
