Unitas 6326

Description

One of the most commonly used, often referred as “Wehrmachtswerk”, 13 ligne windup movement is the Unitas 6236, the sister movement of the Unitas 6235. They just differ by the gear train bridge, which here houses the minute wheel, too.

You’ll find it with and without shock protections and with or without cap jewels (which can make a difference of four jewels, as you can see on the specimen shown).

What they all have in common, however, is the lateral indentation next to the balance cock screw, making this movement very easy to distinguish from the significantly rarer, but therefore more sought-after, AS 1130.

The technical execution of this movement is flawless; all important bearings, even that of the minute wheel, are fitted with synthetic rubies.

Unitas 6326: gear train

gear train

We have the classical windup gear train here: The large mainspring barrel drives the center minute wheel, followed by third wheel, seconds wheel at 6 o’clock and the escape wheel.

This proven and large-scale design means that this movement, even though it was only released well after World War II, is referred to as a “Wehrmacht movement,” a name originally intended for movements that were intended to be particularly robust and reliable during wartime in Germany.

The three-leg anular balance is beared in a pair of Incabloc shock absorbers. It beats semi-fast with 21600 A/h and can only be adjusted directly using the hairspring key.

On the dial side, you can see the reliable made yoke winding system.

In the lab

The tested specimen came well used and gummed into the archive and got a simple revision without changing any parts.

Timegrapher result

Compared with the Unitas 6325, the timegrapher rates are significantly worse, however, this can only be due to the poorer general condition of the tested specimen.
